Honed through many hours and visits to the wind tunnel, with numerous aerodynamic engineers and top bike fitters, and with hundreds or real world applications, Torke Aerodynamic preferencing is a world leading, advanced course, into Bicycle fitting for high speed cycling. Over the years it has become evident that, even today, professional/Elite/Olympic teams are not integrating bike fitting into their testing protocols as effectively as they should. This is largely due to their lack of understanding of top level, modern bicycle fitting physiology. This course is for all bike fitters looking to master their knowledge and practice of Aerodynamics for bike fit best practice. It is recommended for bike fitters that have already been through the Torke Body Positioning course as it builds on these foundations.

Course Outline

This course focuses on the unique needs of Time Trial, Triathlon, Track and Criterium racers’ positions where aerodynamic drag takes a higher priority in the bicycle fitter’s decision making process.

  • The fundementals of speed – Power and drag
  • The postural implications of fore arm bracing
  • Muscle activity in forward saddle cycling
  • Inertial and power production effects in high speed cycling
  • Aerodynamics – Fundamentals of Frontal Surface Area and Surface Friction
  • Speed vs drag – the exponential effect – Understanding the speed/drag on each rider
  • How to test for common physiological limitations
  • Understanding the differing physiological demands of TT/TRI/Track with distance, intensity and good running ability(Triathlon)
  • What physiological areas can the rider change/develop. What areas can’t they improve.
  • Postural drag reducing techniques and pacing strategy – how to coach a rider on a course
  • In studio Equipment assessments – Helmets, Skin suits, Aerobars
  • Aero equipment presentation – available equipment and their uses.
  • A thorough functional testing protocol for screening each cyclist for optimal power, postural ease and aerodynamic testing window
  • Understanding UCI and Triathlon regulations
  • Technology – Fontal area readers, on bike sensors, website estimators
  • How to build a testing protocol for wind tunnel/Aero testing

Torke Aerodynamic Preferencing takes the fundamental principles of Torke Cycling Body Positioning and  looks at their relationships during high speed cycling.
