Torke Foot Activation and Symmetry Restoration is the leading insight into this often miss understood and poorly practiced element of bike fitting. Many fitters are hampered by an overly simplistic biomechanical view of footbeds and wedge use. This leads them to either over application or some level of rejection of the subject. The truth lies somewhere in between. Torke cycling is proud to offer this world class Foot Activation course designed to give you much greater clarity and understanding of the fundamental premise and effective practice of advanced footbed, wedge and shim use and leave you with good confidence to deal with the body movement asymmetries we regularly see in bike fitting.

Course Outline

Torke Cycling’s Foot Activation course if a two day world leading bike fitting course focussing on the foot interface. It delves into a much deeper exposition of how the nervous system directs human function and how bike fitters should correctly view and practice the subject. Deeper in theory but also very straight forward in practice, this course lays the right foundation of understanding that will allow you to solve problems other fitters cannot.

Content

  • Further optimisation cleat adjustment
  • Human asymmetry and cycling symmetry – why standing and cycling symmetry often differ.
  • The root issue of why cyclists need footbeds and wedges – Neurological challenges
  • Foot assessment – structure and disfunctions
  • Shoe fit – shape, support and its effects on body function.
  • The role of foot strengthening exercises – how these help but not solve the problem
  • The primary function of the footbed – what we are trying to achieve – Neural reconnection and how this effects human movement decisions.
  • Insole, when? Mouldable? Standard? – how to choose the best footbed solution for you and your clients
  • A solid method for assessing footbed effectiveness
  • How to modify and adjust footbeds.
  • The primary function of wedges
  • Wedge types and functions
  • A thorough method for assessing the correct amount and placement of wedging
  • Leg length, both functional and structural – understanding what matters most
  • How and when to use leg length shims
  • A thorough testing process for assessing the most effective leg length shim amount and placement.
  • Saddle based solutions to asymmetry
  • Handlebar based solutions for asymmetry
  • Medical approaches to human asymmetry correction – what you can expect from health care professionals (Chiropractic, Physio, Osteo, Kinesiology, Pilates, Feldencrais)
  • Visual assessments of movement patern changes
  • Technological measurements of movement pattern changes – what the technology sees and what it misses. Understanding the margin of human movement noise and technology sensitivity.
  • Human assessment based – no proprietary equipment needed  (although tools can accelerate the process)

Course Outcome

This course is develeoped to leave you with a high level of confidence to understand and effectively practice the correct application of footbeds, wedges, leg length shims and other mechanical aids to optimise human movemement (symmetrical and asymmetrical) on a bicycle. You will also understand the limitations of bike fitting and what other health care providers might be able to offer your cyclist.

Course length and cost:

2 days. £750

Location:

Torke Cycling, (Pronto Bikes), Somerset UK (Nearest airport Bristol, Nearest Train Station Frome)

“Just a quick email to say many thanks for the training course. I thought it was fantastic. I have come away with more knowledge than I even expected. One of the most useful parts are analysing the current insoles and equipment that are available. This is an excellent way of learning about foot correction and fully understanding the engineering and requirements for each rider.” 2017 participant
