For Experienced Bike Fitters (Minimum 25 bike fits)

Body Positioning stands as the flagship course of Torke Cycling. It is an essential program tailored for seasoned professionals in the cycling industry who have already completed Start Bike Fitting or other relevant training (SBCU, Retul, Trek, Shimano, Gebiomized, etc).

This hands-on course is meticulously crafted to significantly enhance knowledge, critical thinking, and practical bike fitting skills for individual cyclists. Our focus is solely on honing the invaluable human skills essential for effective bike fitting. We are committed to providing the antidote to the prevalent reliance on systematized and technological data-driven approaches, which often attempt (and fail) to replace the necessity of a well-trained, attentive bike fitter. Once you master the art of bike fitting, you will effortlessly harness the power of technology to enhance your expertise. #noshortcuts

I have successfully delivered this education to over one hundred students, many of whom have a background involving some system and/or technology. The overwhelming majority have reported significant improvements in the way they fit, with many describing it as a complete game changer. For many, it was a realization that they had been seeking answers in technology that it could never deliver.

Whether you are already fitting using a system or simply want to learn how to fit yourself, I would be thrilled to have you join this course. I am eager to share with you what I believe is a highly satisfying and effective way of bike fitting.

Please note that this two day course covers gross positioning for Road Cycling (Not TT/Offroad) or internal shoe modifications (LL shims/wedges etc). All my further courses lead on from here. So if your want to do my TT/TRI/Foot Correction/Off Road/Wind Tunnel Aero courses I would very strongly recommend that you do Body Positioning first. All the other courses build on the concepts and skills learned here. This would be the next course to attend if you have already done Start Bike Fitting.

Course Outline

This comprehensive course is meticulously crafted to elevate participants’ ability to consistently achieve optimal gross position, with a primary focus on cleat, saddle, and handlebar relationships. Serving as the foundational cornerstone for effective bike fitting, it is a prerequisite for all advanced Torke courses.

Topics Covered

  • The Basic premise of cycling – Physical forces and physiological responses in detail
  • Pre-Screening – Useful flexibility tests
  • Foot placement over the pedal axle – Plyometric or postural preferencing – Force direction. Balancing the foot over the axle for given seated positions. Plantar/dorsi flexed feet and axle placement.
  • Introducing the theory and practice of axle positioning from 1st Met head to Mid foot. Endurance cycling.
  • Crank length – torque, force and power. Hip flexion.
  • Leg Extension – The effects of under and over extension and key indicators for selecting individually appropriate saddle height
  • Pelvic Rotation and Spinal Flexion – Saddle fit, height and angle and its effects of posture, fuelling and strength.
  • Shoulder and arm extension and alignment – how to create the greatest postural stability and maximise stability, force transfer and comfort.
  • In depth understanding of gravitational forces and the impact on human function – postural work loads, muscular recruitment in the leg muscles, effects on torque and pedal efficiency, fueling and breathing rate,
  • Understanding the key simulations of real world cycling – knowing when to be careful to adjust the physical situation in a bike fit to achieve the highest simulation and subsequent accuracy in you bike fit.
  • Balancing Gravitational and Aerodynamic, postural and performance implications of position

Practical learning

  • You will learn the worlds best understanings, methods and techniques for advanced bike fitting. These methods are not taught any where else. This course represents the best practice of the top 10% of bike fitters world wide. So come an learn how to become an true expert in bike fitting.
  • You will learn the secrets behind the practices – What is actually happening when we cycle and how to figure out whats happening with the individual in front of you.
  • You will learn why and how you would set up a crit race bike differently from a road race, endurance road and hill climb bike. These insights are not shared in any other fit system or education. This will give you much more clarity and accuracy in their work.
  • Learn a scientific, human screening method that relies on your knowledge and skills and not on a prescription or a technology. This unlocks your ability to correctly discern what technological data is useful and what data is leading you astray.
  • Practical learning of functional testing methods for assessing appropriate saddle position and the assessment of a body in motion.
  • Introducing saddle shape selection, ideal performance and common issues. Pelvic anatomy and cycling idiosyncrasies.
  • Practical learning of setback testing for road/Cross/TT/tri with each student
  • Handle bar reach and drop selection – functional implications
  • Practical learning session based on finding an individual’s functional limitations and how to choose an X/Y bar position for road

Course Outcome Torke Cycling Body Positioning course is designed to substantially increase knowledge, critical thought process, skills and methods in the practical application of bike fitting for individual cyclists. This course affords the time to get individuals to a point where they can confidently apply the world’s leading bicycle fitting techniques for positioning the contact points of a bicycle.
